Description

Pair of shells delivered in a small linen pouch. Hand-checked and handcrafted in New Caledonia.

100% natural, sourced from Pacific beaches and carefully polished, nursing shells are nipple shields designed to relieve and alleviate various breastfeeding-related issues (burning, hypersensitivity, irritations, cracks, etc.). Their use also helps stimulate lactation.

As a natural and authentic product, they all differ in size, color, and curvature.

How to choose your size?

Measure the diameter of your areola while lying flat, around the beginning of the 9th month. The shell does not necessarily need to cover or extend beyond the entire areola.* *The areola is the round, flat, brown area surrounding the nipple.

  • Small: Shells measuring between 5 and 5.5 cm / your areola should be less than 5 cm
  • Medium: Shells measuring between 5.5 and 6 cm / your areola should be more than 5 and less than 6 cm
  • Large: Shells measuring between 6 and 7 cm / your areola should be more than 6 and less than 7 cm

To ensure the shells are the right size, they should fully encompass the nipples (without necessarily covering or extending beyond the areolas) and feel comfortable when worn. You should almost forget you’re wearing them…

Hydration of nipples – healing in a moist environment

The shells promote nipple hydration and healing by keeping the skin in contact with colostrum and breast milk, following the moist wound healing method. Detailed information on healing cracks in a moist environment can be found on the La Leche League website.

Directions for use

After breastfeeding, spread a few drops of your hindmilk generously on your nipples. Place the shells inside the bra.

In case of heavy milk flow, it is possible to use nursing pads over the shells.

Wash the shells regularly with warm water and soap.

Important

The correct positioning of the baby at the breast is the best prevention against cracked nipples.

If you need help, your midwife or a lactation consultant can help you find a pleasant body dialogue with your child.

Breastfeeding associations such as La Leche League, the French Association of Lactation Consultants consultants-lactation.org or Marie Thiron's website Health and Breastfeeding are very rich in information.

If you have a yeast infection or an infected crack, consult a specialist quickly.
